Contact metamorphic efrects of the Stillwater Complex, Montana: the concordant iron-formation: a discussion of the role of buffering in metamorphism of iron-formation

چکیده
This paper argues that the presence of external control of fluid composition during metamorphism of iron-formation should be indicated by the occurrence of high-grade rocks which either lack the bufering assemblages such as olivine-magnetite-quartz or by the presence of such assemblages in which the silicates show a very restricted range in composition. A review of high-grade iron-formations from contact and regional metamorphic terrains, including the Stillwater iron-formation, the Biwabik iron-formation and ironformations from Western Australia, Labrador and Southwestern Montaria, shows that all were metamorphosed under a variety of oxygen fugacities and that all had bufered the fluid composition during metamorphism.

Geology and Metamorphism of the Eastern Mesabi Iron Range
INTRODUCTION The field trip today will concentrate mostly on the metamorphic effects on the Biwabik Iron Formation, at the Peter Mitchell mine of eastern Mesabi Iron Range, caused by intrusion of the nearby Mesoproterozoic Duluth Complex (1.1 Ga). The stratigraphy of the iron-formation that is used at this mine, and nearby mines, was mainly developed by Gundersen and Schwartz (1962) and is depi...
متن کاملGeology of the Biwabik Iron Formation and Duluth Complex.
The Biwabik Iron Formation is a approximately 1.9 billion year-old sequence of iron-rich sedimentary rocks that was metamorphosed at its eastern-most extent by approximately 1.1 billion year-old intrusions of the Duluth Complex. The metamorphic recrystallization of iron-formation locally produced iron-rich amphiboles and other fibrous iron-silicate minerals. The presence of these minerals in ir...

Soursat Metamorphic Complex (SMC) in west of Takab city is one of the polyphase metamorphic terrenes in northern Sanandaj-Sirjan metamorphic belt of Iran. The SMC composed mainly of metasedimentary rocks associated with granitic intrusions. Based on metamorphic rocks, two metamorphic phases could be separate in the complex. M1 is representative of regional metamorphisms which varies from greens...
متن کاملPreservation of Fe Isotope Compositions of Iron Formation During Contact Metamorphism
We present the iron isotope composition of primary, diagenetic and metamorphic minerals in five samples from the contact metamorphosed Biwabik Iron Formation. These samples attained peak metamorphic temperatures of <200, <340, ~500, <550, and <740 C respectively. dFe of bulk layers ranges from –0.8 to +0.8&; in some samples the layers may differ by >1& on the millimeter scale. Minerals in the l...

Kuh-E-Faryadoon and Kouli Kosh iron deposits are hosted by regional metamorphic rocks of Sanandaj-Sirjan zone around Deh-Bid area. Plugs and domes of acid rocks protrude these metamorphic rocks. A mylonitization event is super imposed on acid rock and metamorphic complexes. Field, petrological and geochemical studies have shown that (1) Iron mineralization have occurred during mylonitization in...
